The Carolinas Geographic Rugby Union is in search of 3-4 tournaments to serve as hosts for the Summer 2017 Carolinas 7s Qualifying Series. The series of events will decide which Men’s and Women’s teams represent the CGRU at the South Championships where they’ll have the opportunity to earn a trip to the USA Rugby Club 7s Nationals. Teams participating in the Qualifier Division at any tournament will be awarded points based on their finish at each individual event. At the end of the series, the teams with the most overall Series Points will earn a bid to the South Championship.
Interested host locations will need to complete the CGRUTournamentEventHostingApplication (1) and submit it before May 1st. Submissions can be emailed to the CGRU at firstname.lastname@example.org . The appointed host sites will be notified no later than May 15th.
Potential Series Tournaments are required to provide a Men’s and Women’s Qualifier Division, obtain USA Rugby sanctioning for their event, and use certified referees among other items. Tournament sites will be chosen by the CGRU based on the host club’s ability to provide a great tournament for players, teams, and fans as well as the suitability of the venue being used. Tournament hosts are able to provide additional non-qualifier playing divisions at their events such as social, youth, or Old Boys Divisions. Only tournaments hosted by Carolinas Geographic Union member clubs may be used for Qualifying purposes.
The CGRU is also in search of a representative to attend each tournament and serve as the Director for the 7s Qualifying Series. Director will be responsible for serving as the Director of the Qualifying Division at each Carolinas 7s Series event. Responsibilities include checking team rosters for accuracy, documenting and reporting scores via social media, and serving as the CGRU representative at each event.
