The CGRU High Performance Program is pushing forward again and has registered a 7’s side into the Las Vegas Invitational to be played March 1 – March 4, 2018. The Carolina’s Women’s All Stars will represent the CGRU for their first time ever in Las Vegas and hope to reignite the spark for the Women’s HP Program in the Carolinas.
The CGRU Selects last competed in January 2015 in a 15’s match (see photo) against the True South Selects, emerging triumphant 42-0.  Logistical and administrative setbacks have meant that the team was not able to assemble since that time, although the passion has remained high and the talent level of the players is still present.  On the feedback of players in the union, the CGRU will use a 7’s format to reignite the program and use the 2018 LVI as a jumping-off point.
Women’s HP Director and acting Head Coach Brad Richard will lead the group through 3 camps/assemblies across the Carolina’s in January and February in a dual purpose effort:
1) provide additional skill development to all women’s players in the Carolina’s
2) select 12 interested players to represent the Carolina’s in Vegas
All assemblies will be open to ALL women’s players in the CGRU, FREE OF CHARGE and we encourage players to attend even if they do not wish to play 7’s at the LVI.  The skills to be trained can easily be integrated into a pre-season plan and enhance the players’ upcoming 15’s season.  We only ask that athletes bring their own hydration/food and a willingness to improve their game.
Additionally, the only projected expense at this time will be for those players that compete at the LVI – the CGRU is asking that they source flights to Las Vegas on 2.27.2018 and the remainder of costs upon arrival will be covered by the Union (accommodation, travel to matches, team meals).
Critical in this effort will be the additional coaching and staff that make such ambitious efforts possible:  Renee Mclane (Savannah) has kindly offered her efforts in an administrative capacity to source lodging, travel, field space, etc and Justin-Kyle Anderson (Charlotte) and Kay Wilson (Columbia) have offered their efforts to assist with the coaching / selections.
We encourage everyone to share this with their coaches / teammates and make an effort to attend.  We are confident that there is immense potential in the women athletes in the Carolina’s and we would love to see everyone benefit from additional interaction and skill development.
